More About The Electrician Industry

The professionals in the electrician industry install and monitor the electrical and power systems anywhere from residential to industrial settings. Everyone depends on the professionalism and skills of electricians to have the light and power needed to maintain a stable work and home life. As you might have imagined, this task is typically no easy one and can be dangerous without proper training, but is also very rewarding.

The kinds of systems electricians work with include wiring, circuit boards and electronics. Electricians typically require a blueprint of the area before they can begin working on it. Blueprints essentially map out where specific wires are located in a circuit. Electricians use this blueprint to target problem wiring. Some of the tools involved in installing and repairing wiring include basically well-known tools such as conduit benders, pliers and screwdrivers, but they also use more involved tools such ammeters, ohmmeters and voltmeters.

Because of the advanced tools and knowledge required and the general dangerous and highly technical nature of an electrician's job, extensive training and certification is required before one can even begin practicing. All electricians must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. before they can progress to higher forms of training. For state and local electricians, an exam must be taken to test each trainer's knowledge of the National Electrical Code, electric and building codes by state and region in addition to general electrical theory. Examination and certifications for public electricians are a bit more involved and usually require a certification of master electrician. Education and training never really ends once you become an electrician because the industry is constantly advancing and workers must stay up to date in order to be successful. Electricians in training require extensive hours of classroom training in addition to apprenticeship and on-the-job training with another trained electrician.

Many electricians travel to different areas as they are needed. The job of an electrician isn't the same every day because a lot of the work is on-call, emergency work from unexpected electrical failures or complications due to the aftermath of a storm. When you join Mr. Electric, the benefits are clear: best business and technical support, and partner with some of the biggest names in home improvement and electrical contracting.
