Dale and Diana Yox of Crystal River, Florida have been part of the Mr. Electric family since March 2006. Dale has 28 years of electrical experience and had been in the industry for 21 years when they decided to improve their business by purchasing a Mr. Electric franchise.
What was business like before you bought a franchise?
We did well prior to joining Mr. Electric, but now our business is better because we have a greater understanding of what our customers want and who our customers are.
What challenges did you face when starting your business?
Most people who start a business like I did know the technical part of being an electrical contractor, but they struggle with the business side and have to learn through trial and error.
What led to your decision to choose Mr. Electric franchise over the other possibilities?
I went to the Mr. Electric annual conference, where I was able to meet Mr. Electric franchise owners and was shown how the system works. It’s encouraging to know that I’m part of something that is bigger than just being in business by myself.
Have the business systems provided by Mr. Electric helped your business run smoother?
Yes, the systems that were provided have already been tested by other owners over the years. This has allowed me to feel confident about making business decisions.
What impact has the Mr. Electric brand had on your business?
It has tied us to a worldwide image. Many of our customers have moved from other locations and feel confident about using us.
How has your life outside work (family, hobbies, etc.) changed as a result of your successes?
I’m able to spend more quality time with my family and friends without constantly thinking about work or bidding jobs.
What do you see in the future of your franchise?
I think we will grow our customer base in the three areas that we have purchased and then expand into other areas.
What has been the biggest benefit to being a Mr. Electric franchisee?
It’s encouraging to know that I’m part of something that is bigger than just being in business by myself.
If you could give one piece of advice to others considering purchasing a franchise, what would you say?
Save yourself some years of frustration trying to make it work and let somebody guide you through the decision-making process.
