Deborah MacLean - Newmarket, Ontario

After working in the software industry for 25 years, Deborah MacLean decided a change was in order. She had wanted for a long time to run her own business and take on a new challenge, and the opportunity arose when the previous owner decided to retire. As one of only a few female solely-owned Mr. Rooter Plumbing franchisees, Deborah is thrilled to be operating her own business. Despite these challenging times, the company remains profitable and well positioned for future growth as competitors leave the marketplace.

What is your previous Plumbing or Business experience?

Deborah: I had no plumbing experience what so ever. My career was spent in the software industry in various marketing and business executive positions. This was my first venture in becoming an owner of a company, and one that I had little industry knowledge of when I began.

Why did you invest in a Mr. Rooter franchise?

Deborah: The franchise was a well run, established, profitable business recommended to me by a colleague. There was a great deal of support from the franchisor that had developed best operational practices within the industry. Simply put, it was a proven concept and the local franchise was a successful business.

What is the biggest benefit of owning and operating a Mr. Rooter franchise?

Deborah: The biggest benefit is the support provided by the Dwyer Group and the extended “family” of other Mr. Rooter owners and managers. I would not be able to accomplish on my own the level of business development, marketing, customer service and operational support that is provided by the Dwyer Group.

 
How is owning your Mr. Rooter shop different from the other positions you have held?

Deborah: I had always worked in a corporate environment and now I was managing my own business with complete responsibility for the bottom line. I enjoy being in control of my financial future and how successful my business can be.

What do you see in the future for your franchise?

Deborah: I plan to outdistance my competitors by providing the highest level of customer service and succeeding in remaining profitable in these challenging times. I hope to continue my five year streak of being a Top Gun winner.
