John Romney - Calgary, Alberta, Canada
John Romney spent more than 20 years in the contracting business before deciding to add plumbing to his specialties. Opening a Mr. Rooter Plumbing franchise in Calgary, John was able to offer additional services to his already existing clientele. A two-time Mr. Rooter award winner, he’s expanded from two trucks to eight. In addition to successfully operating his shop, John is one of two Canadian advisory board members working on new initiatives for all Mr. Rooter franchisees.
Why did you invest in a Mr. Rooter franchise?
John: I thought a Mr. Rooter franchise would compliment our contracting business, which I’ve owned since 1978. I knew having a Mr. Rooter franchise was a recession proof business.
What is the biggest benefit of owning and operating a Mr. Rooter franchise?
John: The biggest benefit of owning a Mr. Rooter Plumbing franchise is the networking with fellow franchisees as well as the marketing and advertising available from the corporate office. The programs and best practices that Mr. Rooter Corporation offers are a great support system.
How is owning your Mr. Rooter shop different from the other positions you have held?
John: With Mr. Rooter, there are systems that can be followed, which are already developed and tested so we know they should work when we apply them in our area. The most rewarding part is seeing the people grow together to form a functioning team.
What do you see in the future for your franchise?
John: In the future I see my Mr. Rooter franchise growing to offer even more first class service. We also want to increase the size of our team to more than 30 employees.
