Paul Chierichetti - Grants Pass, Oregon
Paul Chierichetti started his plumbing career with only one truck and one employee in 1980. When he heard about Mr. Rooter in 1994, he opened a franchise, and he’s never looked back. Today, Paul holds the title of Franchisee of the Year for the Mr. Rooter network.
Why did you invest in a Mr. Rooter franchise?
Before owning a Mr. Rooter franchise, I was dealing with pipes, just like the other small-time plumbers in my area. I wanted something different. I wanted a business I could build, earn a good living from and eventually sell when I retire.
How has your business changed since you became a Mr. Rooter franchisee?
With the help of Mr. Rooter, I went from working in a truck to working on my business. I’ve always been a good, hardworking plumber, but I was not smart about my business. I’ve learned more from Mr. Rooter than when I was studying business in graduate school. I was a tradesman before Mr. Rooter. Now, I’m a businessman, and I operate a 10-truck fleet with 12 team members.
How have you grown your business?
My growth stems from using the tools Mr. Rooter provides. I admit I’m slow to change, but the company support and the example of the other franchises keeps me moving toward my goal. One aspect that may be hard to recognize from outside our system is the importance of the other 250 plus Mr. Rooter franchisees (in the United States and Canada) who I can call for ideas and answers. I enjoy being in business for myself but not by myself.
What has been the key to your success?
The key to my success is as true today as when I bought my Mr. Rooter franchise 15 years ago - a system that works. Having a business that works is like being on a winning sports team – we all win together. I hope to be doing this for a long time.
