Peter and Tina McGrath - Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Peter and Tina McGrath already had experience in the plumbing world when the opportunity to buy a Mr. Rooter franchise came up. When the previous Mr. Rooter owner approached them with an offer, the McGrath’s knew they should give it serious consideration. They have since moved from being a one truck operation to having 11 trucks on the road and are two-time Mr. Rooter award winners.
What is your previous Plumbing or Business experience?
Peter: We previously owned and operated an independent plumbing company for six years that had up to three employees. This taught me the skills needed to run a professional plumbing company and showed me the difference between being independent and having franchise support.
Why did you invest in a Mr. Rooter franchise?
Peter: We bought a Mr. Rooter franchise to learn how to operate and grow a successful plumbing company. The reputation of the company made it a worth while venture for someone in my position.
What is the biggest benefit of owning and operating a Mr. Rooter franchise?
Peter: I think the biggest benefit would be the networking. The support, knowledge and experience from other franchisees helps eliminate costly mistakes or can improve productivity.
How is owning your Mr. Rooter shop different from the other positions you have held?
Peter: I think it's different in that I can work at running the business in the office, rather than working in the business on a truck. This allows for a better quality of life and much better profit. I have the ability to make as much of this company as I choose.
What do you see in the future for your franchise?
Peter: I see a continuous growth. I see a future for my three children if they choose to continue being involved with the company. I see financial independence. I see a good life.
