Military Times EDGE Ranks Dwyer Group Concepts in 2010 Best for Vets: Franchises

Waco, Texas (October 6, 2010) – Military Times EDGE, a publication dedicated to revealing positive and practical actions to improve the lives and careers of soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, has released a 2010 Best for Vets: Franchises ranking.

Military Times EDGE invited franchise companies to explain their veteran programs in an online survey, with which they later combined with the franchise’s performance data provided by the independent franchise research firm FRANdata, to create the Best for Vets: Franchise ranking.

“Franchises included in the final ranking must have started franchising before 2006; have more than 50 franchised units; have minimum and maximum initial investments averaging less than $500,000; had flat or positive growth rates for the previous three years; and had submitted to FRANdata their most recent franchise disclosure documents at the time of the survey (2008 or 2009).”

At this site, they offer several ranking options to view, including “Overall,” “Performance,” “Vet Points,” “Investment,” and “Industry.”

According to IFA, the International Franchise Association, “membership [of VetFran participants] consists of more than 1,300 franchisors; more than 10,000 franchisees; and more than 500 suppliers.”

Out of these many franchises, the survey online includes only 75 franchises. The rankings for concepts under The Dwyer Group are as follows

In “Overall,” Aire Serv ranked 25, Mr. Appliance ranked 26, Glass Doctor ranked 27, Rainbow International ranked 28, Mr. Electric ranked 29, and Mr. Rooter ranked 53.

In “Performance,” a ranking by franchise performance data, including growth and stability, Aire Serv ranked 27, Mr. Appliance ranked 37, Mr. Rooter ranked 38, Glass Doctor ranked 59, Rainbow International ranked 62, and Mr. Electric ranked 65.

In “Vet Points,” a ranking by 1) veterans’ accommodations, including veterans’ discounts and other financial incentives, 2) veterans on the company’s executive team and 3) special policies supporting reservist franchisees. Aire Serv ranked 17, Mr. Appliance ranked 18, Glass Doctor ranked 19, Rainbow International ranked 20, Mr. Electric ranked 21, and Mr. Rooter ranked 53.

In “Investment,” a ranking by the average of each franchise’s minimum initial investment, Mr. Appliance ranked 9 (in the “Less than $100,000 category), Aire Serv ranked 31, Rainbow International ranked 32, Mr. Electric ranked 33, Mr. Rooter ranked 41(the above four in the $100,000-$200,000 category), and Glass Doctor ranked 56 (in the $200,000-$300,000 category).

Finally, in the “Industry” ranking, Aire Serv ranked 4, Mr. Appliance ranked 5, Glass Doctor ranked 6, Rainbow International ranked 7, Mr. Electric ranked 8, and Mr. Rooter ranked 10 in the “Maintenance Service” category.
