The Grounds Guys™ Win Gold in Canadian Franchise Association’s Excellence Award

Waco, Texas (October 18, 2010) – The Grounds Guys,  the newest service concept under The Dwyer Group®, is proud to accept the gold in a competition that not only “celebrates the mutually-rewarding relationship between franchisor and franchisee,” but also looks at the system’s commitment to abiding CFA’s “best practices” in specific areas such as franchisee relations, teamwork and communications.

Peter van Stralen, the president and CEO, believes The Grounds Guys are unique in many ways beyond presentation of their trucks and equipment. The importance lies in more than what you do; it’s how you do it.

“We’ve got the systems down pat. We have a culture that is attractive and unique…not just a recognized brand but an admired brand,” van Stralen said.

Based in Orangeville, Ontario, and established in 1987 by Tim van Stralen, The Grounds Guys recently has acquired a new training center in Orangeville. They look for franchisees in Canada and the U.S. that are attracted to the core values and service mindset that is ingrained in their brand.

“Working with your family can be challenging. As ten brothers, we’ve worked together for over 17 years, so we’ve worked out any communication problems. We took our good qualities and applied them to our franchisees. They’re our extended family,” said van Stralen.

In order to foster such good relationships, regular calls, visits and regional meetings are a frequent requirement.

“They are our franchise partners with a vested interest. Before we roll out an idea, they can comment. It gives them a voice,” van Stralen said. “It was exciting to win the award and a big honor because the votes came from the franchisees themselves. When you win gold in any category, you hold it in high esteem.”
